What to check before signing with an RPSL agency
Never pay a placement fee to an agency with an Expired or Suspended licence. There is no legal recourse if the agency cannot place you.
RPSL is issued by the DGMA. Only agencies with an Active licence can legally recruit Indian seafarers for foreign-going vessels. Always verify the licence number and expiry date before signing any contract or paying any fee.

What is an RPSL agency?
RPSL stands for Recruitment and Placement of Seafarers Licence. These are agencies authorised by the DGMA to recruit Indian seafarers for ships. Only licensed RPSL agencies can legally place seafarers on foreign-going vessels.
Why should I verify an RPSL agency before signing?
Unlicensed or suspended agencies cannot legally place seafarers. Signing a contract with such an agency puts you at risk of fraud, unpaid wages, and stranded situations at sea. Always confirm Active status before paying any fees.
What does Expired or Suspended status mean?
Expired means the agency's licence has lapsed or not been renewed. Suspended means DGMA has temporarily suspended the licence pending investigation. Neither can legally recruit seafarers.
