What makes a maritime course official in India?
An institute can be approved to run one course but not another. Always verify the specific course approval, not just the institute name.
In India, maritime training courses must be approved by the Directorate General of Maritime Administration (DGMA), formerly the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS). Approval is granted at the course level, not just the institute level. This means an institute may be approved to run Basic Safety Training but not Advanced Fire Fighting.

DNS (Diploma in Nautical Science) and B.Sc Nautical Science are the main deck officer routes. B.Tech Marine Engineering leads to the engine officer track. Your choice depends on whether you prefer deck or engine.
